Piano at St-Michael's Church

One of the earliest achievements of the Canadian Mountain Arts Foundation was a fundraising drive to purchase a grand piano for the community in 1997.

Championed by Julie Kehler, one of the founders of the foundation, the piano’s 88 keys were auctioned off for $100 each to raise funds for a beautiful 7-foot Mason and Hamlin grand piano.

The grand piano is an important asset for the performing arts community, and since its purchase this beautiful instrument has had ample use. It is currently housed in the St. Michael’s Church Hall, on 7th Street in Canmore, with hopes that one day it shall be moved just across the street to the new Lamphouse Centre for the Arts, once it is constructed.

Upon request, the piano is available to groups and individuals for rehearsals, performance and instruction in the St. Michael’s Church Hall. Arrangements for use must first include an arrangement for rental of the hall – call 403.678.5191. Users of the piano must agree to make a donation towards the upkeep of this fine instrument, and agree to the foundation’s Piano User Policy, which ensures the grand piano remains in top condition.

The foundation welcomes all donations that assist with the upkeep of the grand piano. Contribute to the Piano Upkeep Fund at events held in the hall, or contact us to make a contribution. Music lovers in Canmore will thank you!
