Cy (Chelsea) Yang-Smith (they/them) is a visual artist, photographer, and maker currently based in Treaty 7 territory. Yang-Smith holds a Bachelor of Design in Photography (2016) from the Alberta University of the Arts and is the Photography Facilitator at Banff Centre for Arts + Creativity.

"I'm a firm believer in authentic imagery that celebrates real people and real ideas! My creative approach incorporates a strong visual design ethos and my belief in documenting honest imagery.

A commercial photographer by trade, my creative interests have expanded into bookbinding, printmaking, traditional analogue photography, and more. I consider my art practice to be process-oriented and I will work through multiple image-based mediums to contextualize my ideas.

I'm keen to work on multiple drafts of a project in order to get it right. Practice makes perfect! I believe sharing knowledge and building community is generative and vital to being an artist here in the Bow Valley and I'm grateful to occupy this land and settle here."

Yang-Smith’s work has been featured in solo and select group exhibitions in Calgary/ Mohkinstsis and they retain an active commercial practice shooting for a number of international and local clients across Canada. You can find their work Photography - Chelsea Yang-Smith (chelseayangsmith.com)
